Indonesia to produce 1,000 local-made 122mm rockets R-Han 122 for MLRS rocket launcher system.

Indonesian Research and Technology Ministry is planning to develop some 1,000 rockets to reinforce the country's armed forces'arsenal, local press reported Friday, June 8, 2012.

The 122-mm rockets were named R-Han 122 and will have a range of 15-20 kilometers, said Hari Purwanto, an expert on defense and security at the ministry. "The rocket is the result of development by Indonesia's Institute of Aeronautics and Space and will be used for the defense of the nation,"Purwanto was quoted by the Jakarta Globe as saying. According to Purwanto, rocket production is a crucial arms technology that needs to be independently developed by Indonesia. "The development of the rocket is a large state investment that is aimed at reinforcing the defense security forces and also adding to the main weaponry systems of TNI,"Hari said, adding that other states already had their own independent rocket technology.
