TUCSON (BNS): Raytheon has received a contract from the US Navy to produce Rolling Airframe Missile Block 2 systems.

The contract, worth $51.7 million, makes provision for low rate initial production of the advanced missiles. It includes options, which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of the contract to more than $105 million, Raytheon said.

RAM Block 2 features enhanced kinematics, an evolved radio frequency receiver, a new rocket motor, and an upgraded control and autopilot system.

Lockheed Martin and Raytheon square off for major, mobile tactical radar program

Industry team Lockheed Martin and ARINC submitted its proposal July 30 for a new, transportable air traffic control radar system that will enable Air Force and Air National Guard units to quickly establish tactical military or disaster-relief airfield operations around the world. They will compete against Raytheon, which submitted its proposal earlier this month for the Air Force’s Deployable Radar Approach Control (D-RAPCON) program.

Under the D-RAPCON program, the Air Force will procure 19 modular ATC surveillance radar systems, which can deploy within 48 hours worldwide by C-130 aircraft and take less than six hours to set up. Older, portable ATC systems presently in use are becoming maintenance challenges. The total program value is expected to be more than $400 million.

New Raytheon warhead lethal to enemy rockets

File image.

The U.S. Army and Raytheon completed a warhead test for the new Accelerated Improved Interceptor Initiative (AI3). Once fielded, AI3 is intended to provide a new level of warfighter protection by destroying incoming rockets, artillery and mortars.
The ground-based system will leverage proven technologies from many of Raytheon's programs, including the Sidewinder air-to-air missile and Small Diameter Bomb II.
"AI3, which can be fielded by 2014, will save soldiers' lives," said Lt. Col. Brent Wilhide, the U.S. Army's AI3 product manager.
"This recent test success was important because it proved the warhead Raytheon will use for AI3 can neutralize the kind of threat AI3 is designed to counter."
The test, which marked a key milestone in AI3's 18-month development program, evaluated six different warheads. AI3 is a rapid acquisition program; it is being managed out of the Army's Counter-Rockets, Artillery and Mortar program directorate and Program Executive Office, Missiles and Space.

Raytheon To Supply Field Artillery Tactical Data System To U.S Army

Raytheon Company has won an $81 million contract from the U.S. Army to develop and produce a new version of the Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System (AFATDS).

Under the contract, Raytheon will provide general and fires command and control capabilities to ground forces, from mission planning to execution.

AFATDS is designed to integrate and use information from a variety of sources to create a common operational picture. The system utilizes the information and common operational picture to plan, coordinate and control battlefield elements, including mortars, close air support, naval gunfire, attack helicopters, offensive electronic warfare, field artillery cannons, rockets and guided missiles.

Raytheon's SDB II successfully completes flight test

Raytheon's GBU-53/B Small Diameter Bomb II (SDB II) programme, currently under development for the US Air Force (USAF), has successfully demonstrated its capabilities during testing at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, US.
Following its launch from the USAF's F-15E fighter jet, the bomb employed its tri-mode seeker to acquire, track and successfully destroy a moving target, during the testing, conducted on 17 July 2012.
Raytheon missile systems air warfare systems vice president Harry Schulte said that SDB II will provide the soldier with a mission-flexible weapon that is capable of destroying swarming boats, mobile air defence systems and armoured targets.
