The  U.S State Department’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls has  estimated an increase of more than $10 billion in export licenses for  weapons and military parts and services sold overseas by U.S. companies.
      According to the report the estimated value of licenses issued was $44.3 billion compared with the previous year.
      Brazil  takes the lead with the highest numbers of sales compared with other  nations. In 2010, the State Department approved licenses valued at as  much as $219.9 million for sales to Brazil, up from $209.6 million in  2010.
      With the largest deal valued at $158.3 million for  military aircraft and associated equipment such as engines, technical  data, components, emergency escape equipment and inertial navigation  devices.
      India comes in at a close second with approved  licenses valued at $217.3 million, up from $154.5 million in fiscal  2010. Like Brazil, India’s biggest purchase was military aircraft and  associated equipment.
      Middle East nations also figured on  the list with sales to Egypt estimated at $114 million in 2011, a rise  from the 2010 licenses valued at $91 million.
      The value of licenses issued for Yemen also increased to $24.3 million in 2011 up from $4.1 million in 2010.
