Japan has recalled its ambassador to China Uichiro Niwa for consultations following an incident near the disputed Diaoyu Islands in the East China Sea, Japan’s Kyodo newspaper reports.

Earlier this week, Japan voiced protest to China after three Chinese military ships had entered the waters of the islands.
In response the Chinese Foreign Minister said that the islands were China's inherent territory since ancient times.
Beijing and Tokyo fail to agree on the border between the economic zones in the area of the Diaoyu Islands.
