Japan considers using force to protect controversial Senkaku islands

Japan may dispatch military forces around the Senkaku Islands, also known as the Diaoyutai Islands, to defend what it believes to be its territory, said Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda at the National Diet on Thursday. He also stressed the importance of resolving the dispute through diplomatic means.
The Prime Minister said the islands have been recognized by international law and history as a part of Japan's territory despite the growing presence of Chinese fishing boats around the area, which have intensified the tension between China and Japan, according to Want Daily, our Chinese-language sister newspaper.
