U.S. military increases demand for infrared camera systems

Despite federal spending cutbacks, Rice Camera Technologies, a leading provider of military camera systems, announced on Monday that it continues to see strong increase in demand from the U.S. military.
“While the U.S. government is reducing federal spending, they are still interested in obtaining the latest advanced technologies to protect America’s warfighters,” commented Jay Rice, CEO of Rice Camera Technologies.
In the last 12 months, Rice has been contracted to supply infrared and hyperspectral technologies to multiple agencies and defense contractors, including the Department of Defense (DOD) and branches of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The total value of these contracts is in excess of $1 million.
In April, the U.S. Army awarded Rice a sole source contract to upgrade the government owned FIRST HyperSpectral Imaging System built in 2004. Under the contract, Rice and manufacturer Telops will update hardware and software in the equipment to current commercial configuration. The upgrades will be performed in Canada by Telops.
