Taiwan-China talks slated for Aug. 9: official

The eighth round of high-level talks between Taiwan and China is scheduled to take place Aug. 9 in Taipei, with the two sides expected to seal a long-stalled investment protection pact, Taiwan officials said Wednesday.
Sources said that Chen Yunlin, president of the Beijing-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait, will arrive the day before the talks to prepare for the signing of both the investment protection pact and a customs cooperation pact.
He will meet the following day with his local counterpart, Straits Exchange Foundation Chairman Chiang Pin-kung, to finalize the two agreements that are expected to expedite customs clearance and protect Taiwanese businessmen when they are in China.
