Officers respond to Taiwanese naval drill debacle

People within Taiwan's navy have different opinions regarding a Taiwanese Kidd class destroyer approaching Japanese territorial waters during a drill last month, the China Times reported on Aug. 4.
Led by Rear Admiral Chang Feng-chiang, head for the navy's Fleet 168, which is the nation's biggest combat vessel, and two other frigates carried out a combo drill off the east coast of Taiwan at the end of July. The fleet, however, left the planned zone during the drill and approached Japanese territorial waters. The unusual move was monitored by the Japanese and US militaries but the Japanese military did not make a move or complaint.
