The convoy was formed in western part of the Arabian Sea. It includes 2 Liberian-flagged oil tankers with Russian crews on board, and a Singapore-flagged merchant vessel.
The Russian destroyer will escort the convoy through the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden to the assigned point in the Red Sea along the 1,000-mile long route.
Vice Admiral Kulakov left the NF main base Severomorsk on Apr 6. Throughout the deployment, the ship has covered over 12,000 nautical miles and escorted 8 civilian ships flying flags of Marshall Islands, Malta, Panama, and Turkey.
Late in Apr 2012, NF destroyer Vice Admiral Kulakov called at port Souda, Greece. Officers and marines had a unique opportunity to visit the NATO's international naval operations training center. NF servicemen exchanged anti-piracy experience with their foreign colleagues and held a number of practical drills.
As is planned, crew of Vice Admiral Kulakov on June 23 will begin escorting of the 5-th convoy to be formed in the Red Sea.
