Northrop to supply G4 targeting pods for RDAF

Northrop Grumman has received a contract from the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO) to supply Litening G4 advanced targeting systems to the Royal Danish Air Force's (RDAF) fleet of F-16 Fighting Falcon jets.

Under the terms of the contract, Northrop Grumman will deliver an unspecified number of Litening G4 pods, along with data links, spares, support equipment, training and associated logistics support services to the RDAF.

Northrop Grumman electro-optical/infrared business unit vice president, Jim Mocarski, said: "This award, following a rigorous competitive selection process, is yet another vote of confidence from the international aviation community in the advanced technology of the Litening G4 targeting system."

A fifth-generation targeting and surveillance system developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, the Litening G4 pod is designed to offer unsurpassed imagery using 1K forward-looking infrared, 1K charge-coupled device sensors, and a wider field of view and enhanced zoom capability.

Featuring significant enhancements in recognition range and image quality, the new system provides accurate target identification and location at long ranges in the battlefield.

Deliveries under the contract are scheduled to commence in August 2013.

The Litening family of G4 pods are also in use with air forces in the US, Netherlands, Finland, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Israel.

Built by General Dynamics, the F-16 Fighting Falcon is a jet fighter aircraft designed initially as an air superiority day fighter, but later evolving into a successful all-weather multirole aircraft
