Damascus is ready to pullout its forces from cities at the same time as the opposition forces. This was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov after his talks with Syrian counterpart Walid Moallem in St. Petersburg.
He called on Damascus to implement the plan for solving the Syrian conflict worked out by the special envoy of the UN and the League of Arab States, Kofi Annan.
According to Lavrov, the Syrian authorities have done a lot but should do much more.
Lavrov emphasized that Russia together with its Western partners and several Gulf states and Turkey, is making efforts to persuade the opposition to stop ignoring the Kofi Annan plan.
The Russian Foreign Minister described the current situation in Syria as an “acute phase of the crisis”.
