Elbit Systems to Establish a Mission Training Center for Fighter Pilots of a Latin American Air Force


HAIFA, Israel, Sept. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Elbit Systems Ltd. (NASDAQ and TASE: ESLT) ("Elbit Systems") announced today that it was awarded a contract valued at $18.5 million for the establishment of a Mission Training Center (MTC) for fighter aircraft of a Latin American Air Force. The establishment of the MTC will be performed during 2014.
The MTC is designed to improve the operational training of pilots by training in various mission scenarios, in varying war zones and in the relevant threat environment of each war zone - a cutting-edge training capability which has not been available to Air Forces in the past. The high quality of operational training achieved by the MTC will enable the customer to operate some of the training sorties onboard the trainers instead of fighter jets, thus allowing optimal use of existing resources.
This new contract marks another milestone in Elbit Systems' mission training activities  and follows the establishment of the MTC for the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMOD) for the F-16 and F-15 fighter aircraft.

The MTC is a unique system that enables joint-training between the various trainees, both within the Air Force and at an interoperable level. The Air Force teams will be able to train in formations of pairs and foursomes, and the system will also enable integration with other training systems. In addition, the system will allow joint-training of various mission scenarios, even if the different trainers are situated in geographically distant locations.

Airbus unveils its 2050 vision for ‘Smarter Skies’

A future with more flights, fewer emissions and quicker passenger journey times

Global aircraft manufacturer Airbus today releases the latest instalment of the Future by Airbus, its vision for sustainable aviation in 2050 and beyond. For the first time the vision looks beyond aircraft design to how the aircraft is operated both on the ground and in the air in order to meet the expected growth in air travel in a sustainable way.
Charles Champion, Executive Vice President Engineering at Airbus, says: “Our engineers are continuously encouraged to think widely and come up with `disruptive’ ideas which will assist our industry in meeting the 2050 targets we have signed up to. These and the other tough environmental targets will only be met by a combination of investment in smarter aircraft design and optimising the environment in which the aircraft operates. That is why our latest Future by Airbus Smarter Skies concepts focus on not just what we fly but, how we may fly in 2050 and beyond.”
Already today, if the Air Traffic Management (ATM) system and technology on board the aircraft were optimised, Airbus research based on recent research suggests that flights in Europe and the US could on average be around 13 minutes shorter, and flights in other parts of the world could be shorter too. Assuming around 30 million flights per year, this would save around 9 million tonnes of excess fuel annually, which equates to over 28 million tonnes of avoidable CO2 emissions and a saving of 5 million hours of excess flight time. Add to this new aircraft design, alternative energy sources and new ways of flying and you could see even more significant improvements.
The Future by Airbus concentrates on just that and the Smarter Skies vision consists of five concepts which could be implemented across all the stages of an aircraft’s operation to reduce waste in the system (waste in time, waste in fuel, reduction of CO2). These are:
Aircraft take-off in continuous ‘eco-climb’
  • Aircraft launched through assisted take-offs using renewably powered, propelled acceleration, allowing steeper climb from airports to minimise noise and reach efficient cruise altitudes quicker.
  • As space becomes a premium and mega-cities become a reality, this approach could also minimise land use, as shorter runways could be utilised.

Aircraft in free flight and formation along ‘express skyways’
  • Highly intelligent aircraft would be able to “self-organise” and select the most efficient and environmentally friendly routes (“free flight”), making the optimum use of prevailing weather and atmospheric conditions. 
  • High frequency routes would also allow aircraft to benefit from flying in formation like birds during cruise bringing efficiency improvements due to drag reduction and lower energy use.

Low-noise, free-glide approaches and landings
  • Aircraft allowed to take free glide approaches into airports that reduce emissions during the overall decent and reduce noise during the steeper approach as there is no need for engine thrust or air breaking. 
  • These approaches would also reduce the landing speed earlier which would make shorter landing distances achievable (less runway needed).

Low emission ground operations
  • On landing aircraft engines could be switched off sooner and runways cleared faster, ground handling emissions could be cut.
  • Technology could optimise an aircraft’s landing position with enough accuracy for an autonomous renewably powered taxiing carriage to be ready, so aircraft could be transported away from runways quicker, which would optimise terminal space, and remove runway and gate limitations.

Powering future aircraft and infrastructure
  • The use of sustainable biofuels and other potential alternative energy sources (such as electricity, hydrogen, solar etc) will be necessary to secure supply and further reduce aviation’s environmental footprint in the long term.  This will allow the extensive introduction of regionally sourced renewable energy close to airports, feeding both aircraft and infrastructure requirements sustainably.
Airbus is already working on a number of innovative solutions today to meet the challenges of sustainable aviation in the future, whether it be the development and use of alternative fuels; investment in aircraft design; or in supporting more efficient ATM. Airbus is also one of the major actors of the NEXTGEN and SESAR programmes - which seek to enhance the performance of the ATM system through a better use of aircraft capabilities, changes in infrastructure and organisation. These new capabilities are designed to reduce traffic congestion and delays, will allow more direct routes, better flight profiles, and should help reduce the cost of air navigation services through advanced communications and technologies..

Teykovo division of Strategic Missile Forces switched over to fifth-generation RТ-2PМ2 and RS-24 missiles

Teykovo division of Strategic Missile Forces switched over to Yars and Topol-M mobile missile systems with fifth-generation intercontinental ballistic missiles RТ-2PМ2 and RS-24, Lenta.ru reports.

As reported by a representative of the Ministry of Defense, Vadim Koval, two guided missile regiments of the division deployed near Ivanovo are equipped with Topol-M missile system, and two more – with Yars missile systems. It was reported earlier that the division will fully switch over to the new missile systems in 2012.

Besides Teykovo division, the new mobile Yars and Topol-M systems should be delivered to divisions of Strategic Missile Forces deployed near Irkutsk and Novosibirsk. Kozelsk division will acquire silo-based Yars systems.

In the network of rearmament of Strategic Missile Forces the Topol-M mobile systems will be gradually replaced by Yars ones. At that only silo-based Topol systems will be operated by the army.

Iranian General Feel Israel Will Strike His Country

The commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Gen. Mohammad Ali Jafari, said Saturday that war with Israel will “eventually happen,” and that the Islamic Republic would “destroy the Jewish state.”
Speaking at a news conference in Tehran, Jafari said, “The war will eventually happen but it is not clear when and where it will take place,” according to the semi-official Fars news agency.
“This cancerous tumor Israel seeks to launch a war against us,” he said, and added, “right now they see war as the only method of confrontation.”
“If [Israelis] start something, they will be destroyed and it will be the end of the story for them,” Jafari said, according to ISNA.
An Al Arabiya report on Friday said that Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has ordered the powerful IRGC to stop its operations around the world, particularly those in Africa and Latin America, according to a senior army official.
The official told Al Arabiya that Khamenei wants the IRGC to focus its efforts on countries in the region, and that he fears a possible Israeli strike. Khamenei is also worried about the effect of crushing international sanctions, particularly on the Islamic Republic’s funding of its military forces, according to the report.
The IRGC has been accused of involvement in numerous acts of terrorism worldwide, and its Al-Quds force has focused on attacks on Israeli targets. Most recently, Israel blamed Iran for a series of attempts to hit Israeli targets in India, Georgia, Thailand and other countries last spring. India’s police reported IRGC involvement in one of these attacks, in which the wife of an Israeli diplomat was injured in a bombing in February in New Delhi.
Also on Friday, Iran held a massive parade where it unveiled a new air defense system, Raad. At the parade, the air force commander of the Revolutionary Guards, Amir Ali Hajizadeh, warned that Israel “would cease to exist” if it launched an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
“If a conflict breaks out, the Zionist regime would be able to manage the beginning of the war, but the response and end would be in our hands, in which case the Zionist entity would cease to exist,” said Hajizadeh. “The number of missiles launched would be more than the Zionists could imagine,” he added, according to Iran’s Fars news agency.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad used the event to lash out at the West over an anti-Islam film produced in the United States and the publication of caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad by a French satirical weekly.
Ahmadinejad said that ”in return for (allowing) the ugliest insults to the divine messenger, they — the West — raise the slogan of respect for freedom of speech.” He asserted that this shows a double standard and “is clearly a deception.” Ahmadinejad called the film a plot conceived by Zionists to cause discord among Muslims.
The parade marked the anniversary of the beginning of the Iran-Iraq war 32 years ago.
According to Fars, Raad, or Thunder, is more advanced than its Russian predecessor and is designed to confront fighter jets, cruise missiles, smart bombs, helicopters and drones.

Saudi Spending Millions on Syrian Rebels Training

Dozens of training camp running in rebels control area funded by Saudi government. These mans are train to fight President Bashar Al Assad's army.
According to media reports Syrian rebels (Free Syrian Army ) is getting all required assistance from Saudi and other middle east stats. Rebels are getting training in line of regular solider.
The operation comes with weighty foreign funding. Mostly from Saudi Arabia, tens of millions of dollars are being poured into the area to pay for weapons, training and support to FSA divisions, according to report published by Daily Telegraph.




 


My View: US and its middle east alliance should be careful as they have already burned their hands in Afghanistan. Afghanistan has proven more costly to US rather then Soviet Union.

Robot Tuna Joins Homeland Security Arsenal

Speedy tuna capable of swimming tirelessly in the Earth's oceans have inspired the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to fund a lookalike robot for underwater patrols.
The "BIOSwimmer" robot features faithfully replicated fins and a flexible tail to pull off quick maneuvers like the real-life fish. Homeland Security made the choice to fund the robot made by the Boston Engineering Corporation in Waltham, Mass., with an eye toward missions such as exploring the flooded areas of ships, inspecting oil tankers or patrolling U.S. harbors to watch out for suspicious activity.
"It's called 'biomimetics,'" said David Taylor, program manager for the BIOSwimmer at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. "We're using nature as a basis for design and engineering a system that works exceedingly well."
The robot, which is based on the tuna's sleek, flexible shape, would be able to squeeze into tight spaces such as the flooded bilges and tanks of ship interiors — not to mention fit in well with surrounding marine life. Humans can control BIOSwimmer's activities through a laptop, but the unmanned underwater vehicle also carries its own computer for navigation, processing sensor data and communications with the home base.
BIOSwimmer represents just one of the new generation of robots that take their design inspiration from nature. Animals such as flying cockroaches to slithering snakes have given rise to robotic imitators that try to harness nature's lessons for moving around during natural disasters or on battlefields.
Marine animals beyond tuna have much to teach human engineers. Even squirmy starfish, worms and octopuses have inspired squishy, color-changing robots capable of both camouflage and squeezing into tight spaces.
