China Enhance Its Meritime Serveillance

8 new satellites to enhance China's maritime surveillance

China's government plans to launch eight new satellites in the next eight years to strengthen the monitoring of the maritime areas of the South and East China seas to which it lays claim, including the Diaoyutai (Diaoyu or Senkaku) islands in the East China Sea and Scarborough Shoal and the Paracels in the South China Sea. The satellites will also assist in the research of resources in the region.
The plan was announced by Jiang Xingwei, director of the National Satellite Ocean Application Service,while attending the opening of a research lab at the State Oceanic Administration and the third China Digital Ocean Summit held recently in Tianjin for experts to discuss "digital ocean" exploration derived from the concept of "digital earth" research.
